This post is meant to be education in light of the recent cardiac arrest event that was witnessed on National television of Damar Hamlin. Please note at the time of pubishing this article the status of Damar’s recovery is unknown and he is still listed in critical care. Know that we are praying for him. We are believing God for his total restoration.
Sudden cardiac arrest is the abrupt loss of heart function, breathing and consciousness. The condition usually results from a problem with your heart’s electrical system, which disrupts your heart’s pumping action and stops blood flow to your body. It is important to note: Sudden cardiac arrest is NOT the same as a heart attack (myocardial infarction), when blood flow to a part of the heart is blocked. However, a heart attack can sometimes trigger an electrical disturbance that leads to sudden cardiac arrest….
In these matters, time is of the essence. Immediate medical or life saving strategies must be deployed.
If not treated immediately, sudden cardiac arrest can lead to death. Survival is possible with fast, appropriate medical care. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using a defibrillator — or even just giving compressions to the chest — can improve the chances of survival until emergency workers arrive. We have inserted a video on this post on how to do CPR and you can click here to get certified in CPR. NOTE: Even children can become lifesavers and CPR certified.
